21 May Armenia: Swiss foreign policy should take responsibility

Last September, Azerbaijan’s army carried out a military operation to conquer the Nagorno-Karabakh region, displacing around 150,000 Armenians. EHL President Rita Famos was on the ground with a WCC delegation at the time and called on the Federal Council to take decisive action as part of its UN mandate. Now Azerbaijan is laying claim to a corridor in southern Armenia. A further military conflict is likely, especially as Azerbaijan is supported by Turkey and Russia has not fulfilled its alliance obligations towards Armenia since 2020. Swiss foreign policy is now called upon to make a decisive commitment to a peaceful solution and compliance with international law.
